Schools Programmes

Junior Open House workshop sessionThe built environment is rich with potential and our programmes are developed to realise this full potential through exploration, creativity, direct experience and partnerships with schools and architectural practices.

Working across the capital but particularly targeting inner-city state schools, our initiatives aim to broaden horizons and enrich curriculum activities, especially in design education.

Junior Open House

Junior Open House is a comprehensive and packed programme free to state primary school students in year 5-6 (8-11 year olds). The programme brings students into contact with key pieces of exemplary London architecture. Building explorations encourage young people to be- come ‘architectives’, to look for clues, learn design skills and see ways in which people use space. This direct experience leads on to creative workshops in the classroom.

An additional resource for exploring architecture with Key Stage 2 children is the Open House Archikids Club and website. It’s online, interactive and full of activities to help explore the world of architecture. Visit archikids.org.uk

Open Up

Open Up aims to engage secondary school students with key pieces of contemporary London architecture and issues surrounding design and the built environment. The programme is aimed at state school students of Design and Technology and Art and Design in years 7-11 (11-16 year olds).
