We also showcase housing developments to show how we live, from historic through post-war social housing to new current mixed-use/mixed-tenure solutions.
In 2011, good examples and comparisons included Alexandra Road, the Homes and Communities Agency showcase of fabrik homes and Coldharbour Lane twinned sites, Phoenix Heights where the architect and RIBA President Incumbent Angela Brady led tours, or the award-winning scheme at Claredale Street.
London’s waterways and rivers are crucial to its infrastructure but also increasingly a focus for leisure and even living. In 2011, boat tours unveiled the engineering legacy and future transformations of and around the Thames (Blackfriars, Royal Victoria Dock, East London and Central London river tours, whilst our programme on the Lea Valley starts to bring a new emphasis to London’s second river, the Lea.
Also in 2011, regenerated public space enhanced with art was at City Road Basin’s ‘HABITAT’ project. Water-based communities showed how they live at Kingsland Basin Moorings and Hermitage Community Moorings, Wapping. Whilst Hermitage Community Moorings is a vibrant community of 19 historic boats and a floating education centre.
